Photojournalism
'The art or practice of communicating news by photographs'
Robert Capa - Was a free lance combat photographer who redefined wartime journalism by documenting the battle up-close, gruesome and gritty, in the trenches right next to the soldiers themselves. In his time he covered five different wars ,Spanish Civil war , second Sino-Japanese war, World War II, 1948 Arab-Israeli War, and the First Indochina War. He was also a business man and film maker, this later on leading him to become co-founder of Magnum Photos with Henri Cartier Bresson. He died at the age of forty-one in Thai Binh, Vietnam when he stepped on a land mine.
Henri Cartier Bresson- Surrealist sympathiser, 'Decisive moment'. used a Leica first produced in 1925 and was the first instant camera, making modern photography what it is today. 'into the space life will come','right place, right time'
Tony Vaccaro- war photographer (army) photo's were censored because the military felt america was not ready to see dying soldiers- used the speed graphic which was army issued (too slow for a war photographer) but bought an Argus C3 as it was quicker and easier to use.
